Certaines expressions franÇaises communes du verbe “faire”
Some common expressions of the verb “faire”

       “faire” is the most overworked verb in the French language. It is conjugated as follows:

	Present	Past	Future
Je	fais	ai fait	ferai
Tu	fais	as fait	feras
Il/elle/on	fait	a fait	fera
nous	faisons	avons fait	ferons
vous	faites	avez fait	frez
ils/elles	font	ont fait	feront

       Faire can have a variety of meanings as shown in the following examples.

       1.   to do
               Qu’est-ce que vous faites dans la vie? = What do you do for a living?
               ( vie = life)

       2.   to make
               Ma mère fait un gâteau= My mother is making a cake.

       3.   to give
              Je vais faire une conférence sur la graphologie=I’m going to give a lecture on graphology.
               ( graphologie = handwriting)

       4.   to take
              Elle aime faire une promenade au parc = She likes to take a walk in the park.
               ( promenade = walk)

       5.   to have
              Mon mari fait de la tension. = My husband has high blood pressure./My husband has stress.

       6.   to act
              Ne fais pas l’idiot. = Don’t be a fool.
              Idiot (m) = fool , idiote (f) = fool

       7.   to talk about the weather

                 • Il fait beau. = The weather is fine.

                 • Il fait mauvais. = The weather is bad.

                 • Il fait très chaud. = It is very hot.

                 • Il fait froid. = It is cold.

                 • Il fait du vent. = It is windy.

                 • Il fait du soleil. = It’s sunny.

                 • Il fait du brouillard. = It’s foggy.

                 • En été il fait très chaud. = In summer it is very hot.

                 • En hiver il fait très froid. = In winter it is very cold.

                 • En été il fait jour tôt. = In summer it is day earlier.

                 • En été il fait nuit tard. = In summer it is night later.

                 • En hiver il fait jour tard. = In winter day begins later.

                 • En hiver il fait nuit tôt. = It winter the night begins earlier.

       8.   For individual sports:

                 • Je fais du tennis. = I play tennis.

                 • Tu fais du vélo. = You bike/You go biking.

                 • Il/Elle/on fait du ski. = he/she/one skis/goes skiing.

                 • nous faisons de la natation. = We swim/ we are swimming

                 • vous faites une randonnée. = You hike/you go hiking.

                 • Ils/elles font du cheval. = They go horse riding.
